FIRST DAY OF 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR
First day of the 2026-27 school year. All City-As-School students attend.
SCHOOL CLOSED: Yom Kippur
Yom Kippur, known as the "Day of Atonement," is the holiest and most solemn day of the Jewish year. Its primary purpose is to seek forgiveness for sins and achieve reconciliation with both God and fellow human beings, allowing for spiritual purification and a fresh start.
SCHOOLS CLOSED: Italian Heritage/Indigenous Peoples' Day
Observed on the second Monday of October, this localized holiday recognizes both the cultural contributions of Italian Americans and the historical presence of Native communities. New York City schools and government offices use this dual designation as a compromise, although historical naming and observance debates continue.
Election Day (REMOTE SCHOOL DAY)
General Election - November 3, 2026
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Polls are open from 6am to 9pm.
Early Voting Period is October 24, 2026 – November 1, 2026.

SCHOOLS CLOSED: Veterans Day
Veterans Day is a U.S. legal holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars, and Veterans Day 2026 occurs on Wednesday, November 11. In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I, then known as “the Great War.”
Commemorated in many countries as Armistice Day the following year, November 11th became a federal holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became known as Veterans Day.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service. Honor his legacy by volunteering in your community and learning more about the work of him and other civil rights leaders.

Professional Development Day; students that attend high schools and schools that serve only grades 6-12 are not in attendance. All other students attend school.
